introducing maddy + her minnesota park goal

Hello everyone! I hope your day is going just peachy. So, who am I, and why am I here on The Unexpected Type's blog?

My name is Maddy, and I am one of TUT's new interns! I am happy to be a part of this beautiful small but mighty business run by Sami & Nathan. Since you're here, I'll give you an overview of who I am.

I was born & raised in the beautiful state of Minnesota. It's no joke when us Minnesotans say that winter is one TOUGH son of a gun. Now, why in the world would anyone choose to tolerate that kind of cold for five months out of the year? Trust me. I grew up wondering the same thing. Seriously though, winter in Minnesota is not for the weak, but summer and fall are justification enough for most MN residents. Being able to enjoy over 10,000 lakes, tree-loaded parks, hiking trails, warm starry nights, enchanting expansive forests, and the overall natural and cultural beauty that Minnesota has to offer is an even trade for the brutal winters.

Now that I've bragged about my home state as I tend to do, let me fill you in on who TUT decided to take on as one of their interns.

I am a student at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles, CA. Being an intern for FIDM alumni like Sami is so cool. This past spring, I received my Associate's Degree in Product Development (remotely, sigh.) Moving forward, I will be beginning the Digital Marketing Bachelor's program through FIDM in the fall. Only, I'll be doing so next to my fireplace in Minnesota. Being a college student during this time is exceptionally tricky; there are so many uncertainties. Though, I am so lucky to be certain that I will be able to learn, grow, and be surrounded by support as an intern here at TUT.

Oh yeah, maybe you want to know a little bit about my joys in life and what matters to me.

I love the sky; sunsets, sunrises, lightning, clouds, storms, stars, the Sun. Along with that, GOOD FOOD, sustainable fashion, and KITTIES!!! And of course, the good ole' outdoors. Hmm, let's see what else… Oh yeah! Being a part of the revolutionary Gen Z population that is fighting for justice, equality, environmental protection, as well as overall happiness, love, and peace for all.

Over these next few months, I have a goal of visiting a new MN park each week and documenting it! I’m excited to have a plan that gets me in nature, and extra excited to hopefully share it with all of you!

Thank you so much for using a bit of your day to learn about me, Maddy. I am so excited to be a part of this team. It shouldn't be an UNEXPECTED surprise next time you see me around here now! (Wink, wink.)

Stay safe, stay healthy, and do your best to put yourself first.

Thanks for reading!

Maddy, TUT's 'Minnesota Nice' Intern.
